High Street
Winchester is just one hour from London and close to the South Coast; a traditional city with modern amenities.

It is still predominantly a medieval city. Over a thousand years ago it was the capital of England, and for centuries it was second in importance only to London, resulting in a large number of historic buildings and remains. Excavations in the city continually reveal further sites of interest dating back to Roman times. The solid Norman cathedral is set in a quiet, mellow close and the sound of running water from the River Itchen is never far away as it flows through the city.

The modern city centre offers excellent shops, museums (the legendary round table is in the Great Hall), art galleries, cinemas, theatres and restaurants.

There is a wide range of participant sports: tennis, golf, squash and riding and close to the city centre there is a modern sports centre, equipped with gyms, dance studios and swimming pool. There are many pleasant walks in the water meadows on the banks of the River Itchen, and in the surrounding countryside.
